And it's estimated that 70% of all the wood harvested
in Mexico is harvested *******.
The majority of this timber is going to the United States.
Organized crime groups are trying to find a way
to make the most of those profits
and ensure that at least some of that
ends up in their hands.
That can come through extortion
and offering protection for lumber companies.
But increasingly we see that organized crime groups
are actually participating in the logging themselves.
